28 truckloads / 925,000lbs
28 truckloads / 925,000lbs export shipment- KMX completed a time sensitive project that required KMX to transport (28) truckloads from customer’s WV facility to KMX / MAX’s Hamburg, PA warehouse, export package / prep, deliver packaged equipment to USEC port, and ocean transportation to Europe (including customs formalities)… Due to customer’s contract requirements, the shipment timeline was short requiring the US portion to be completed within (3) weeks of KMX being awarded the project. With +1100 line items of equipment, KMX’s cargo management software (along with customer’s detailed inventory method) allowed KMX to streamline the export preparation process to meet customer’s deadline.
KMX crews rigged out
KMX crews rigged out and loaded a +150,000lb machine onto KMX’s 13 axle trailer. Because of the building’s height restrictions, the trailer’s bed had to be disassembled and positioned under the machine, while KMX’s 400 ton gantry system suspended the machine. Exiting the facility, the doorway only allowed 1/2″ clearance on either side of the 30′ long machine… with hydraulic trailer steering (and +35yr driver experience), KMX personnel made the whole project look like an ordinary equipment loadout. Great job guys!
One stop service
One stop service – KMX recently delivered the first two truckloads of a 22 truckload project. With COVID disrupting the site construction schedule earlier in the year, site contractors needed location(s) to divert equipment until needed . Given KMX’s location, warehouse size, and services offered, KMX was selected as a staging facility for this PA construction project. Thanks to Dickinson Crane Services for utilizing KMX’s facility and providing cranes for inbound and outbound handlings.
Rigging services
Rigging services – Due to crane issues, KMX was approached by a good client with a 24hr response time to mobilize and load a +120,000 lb unit. The scope included moving the 80′ x 15′ x 13′ lwh unit from storage area to the facility’s loading bay. KMX was able to coordinate operations, and the unit was loaded in less than 24 hrs of the initial contact.
It’s been several months since the last shipment
It’s been several months since the last shipment.. shown is the 5th (of 6) +270,000lb mill roll KMX packaged for export and secured to the railcar for this project. With a tight shipping window the railcar is heading to USEC port for shipment to the end customer.
Packed and ready
Packed and ready – KMX’s customer requested a quick packaging turnaround for these (2) 70,000lb units. With the port cutoff a few days away, these units are departing KMX’s Hamburg, PA for ocean shipment to project jobsite . KMX’s customer is more than pleased with the quick service as Incoterm contract language will allow sales recognition within the current month.

KMX crews recently supported a local customer
KMX crews recently supported a local customer with a scheduled armature switch out. The 120,000 lb backup armature (stored at KMX’s facility) was rigged out and transported for the planned outage. KMX crews are now in the process of constructing a new shipping frame to transport the “old” armature to a repair facility.
A Little Rigging and A Lot of Storage
A Little Rigging and A Lot of Storage – KMX International’s Sister Rigging Company, “Mid-Atlantic Exporters, Ltd.” (MAX), provided in-plant rigging of some future Hospital Equipment; while simultaneously preparing this equipment for long term storage.
During the two day on-site rigging, the customer called to relay that the Crew (Michael Miller, Steven McGlone, William Jones, and Ray Tesman) were conscientious and helpful, providing a safe Rigging operation, as well as the need to comply with in plant COVID-19 Requirements. Plant employees appreciated the Safety and Respect shown and praised MAX employees for the extra effort in safety and compliance.
One stop warehousing
One stop warehousing after a lengthy storage period, KMX crews recently assisted OEM technicians perform contract inspections. Six units in total (70,000 – 85,000lbs each) were required to be removed from KMX’s long term storage building, remove wood packaging, and move each unit to an onsite inspection area. Upon completion of the inspections, KMX repackaged the units and returned them to storage mode. All work was coordinated within KMX’s in-house capacities allowing a smooth process while also controlling costs.

Just like the good old days
Just like the good old days. KMX is happy to a part of the economic recovery.
Good to see cargo moving again!
Location, location, location
Location, location, location – The old adage “location is everything” is a KMX mantra, and for good reason!
KMX’s strategic location is less than an hour from the major NE USEC ports. We have 250,000 sq ft of indoor heated, secure warehouse space with in-house riggers and a lifting capacity up to 400 tons. We have computerized cargo management software, offering a variety of reports on the status of your cargo at any given time. In addition to warehousing capabilities, KMX offers heavy-haul and specialized transportation services. All of our amenities allow KMX the opportunity to serve a variety of customers from LTL cargo to major US construction projects.
KMX recently received the last of 50+ truckloads (with pieces weighting in excess of 100,000 lbs) of project cargo which required a secure indoor storage area for 10 months. At a later date, KMX will be contracted to deliver this cargo to an East Coast construction site requiring a strict project sequence. With KMX’s “one stop shop” ability, our foreign client was ecstatic to learn of our capabilities. They are already talking to us about handling shipments for future construction phases.
KMX International Award
KMX International , Hamburg , PA won the Specialized Carrier and Rigging Association Two Transportation Group Safety Awards, FLEET SAFETY AWARD and the ZERO ACCIDENT AWARD for 2018, At the recent April 2019 SC&RA Annual Meetings in California. Given the hazards of our industry, we have great satisfaction knowing that each employee goes home to his/her family, the same way as they arrived to work each day. The only way core values can be realized within the organization is through attention to safety from the top down. Receiving the Zero Accident Award is a visual reminder that the company’s core values are shared among all employees. This is one of the leading factors of our continued success.
Awards are always an advantage when “selling” our company’s services to a customer. More and more, RFQ’s are requiring detailed safety information in order to be considered as a bidder. Between social media posts and the many safety awards won over the years displayed in our lobby, we let customers know the commitment we have to a safe work culture. This is something we take great pride in.
After some COVID 19
After some COVID 19 scheduling delays with the fabrication vendor, KMX transported this piece from the vendor facility to the KMX Hamburg WH, export prepped/packed, and transported cargoes to the Port of export, ensuring that the INCOTERMS of Door USA to FOB Vessel were met without incident and on time. This allowed their customer to get paid in a timely manner from their global customer.
This particular unit measured 57’ long x 15’-10” wide x 12’-6” high – and weighed in at 92,500 lbs.

Coming and Going

Even with these unforeseen interruptions, KMX has been able to keep the project on schedule by providing dedicated transportation services and expediting packaging turnaround times.
Export shipment
Export shipment – KMX completed a rush shipment meeting customer’s short packaging timeline. KMX transported this oversized / overweight unit to our Hamburg, PA facility, export boxed, and delivered to USEC port in time to meet vessel cutoff date… all within a 7 day window.
